I normally have a firm policy about giving money to panhandlers...I don't do it. Tonight as I was leaving a restaurant, a man asked me for money and I said no. He then eyed my leftover food container and asked if he could please have it. It was supposed to be tomorrow's lunch but I couldn't say no to his pleading eyes. I knew that if I gave it to him I'd have to spend money to buy lunch tomorrow, but there is something about feeding a hungry person that just feels right. The man was grateful and thanked me several times. Maybe I'm not as cheap as I thought.
If you ever think you've got money problems think about someone out on the street...just trying to find his next meal and a warm place to sleep. It really puts things into perspective.
